Fenerbahçe aim high with Anelka

Turkish league leaders Fenerbahçe SK have signed French striker Nicolas Anelka from Manchester City FC.

Terms agreed
Fenerbahçe have had to cancel the contract of Brazilian defender Fabiano to make room in their squad for Anelka, who was presented to the Turkish media this morning after completing a medical. The 25-year-old has agreed terms and signed a three-and-a-half year deal with an option for a further 12 months.

In-demand forward
The former Paris Saint-Germain FC, Arsenal FC and Real Madrid CF attacker has been linked with a move throughout the transfer window. He joined City for €13.8m in summer 2002 and last played on New Year's Day, subsequently being sidelined by a back injury.

International absence
Fenerbahçe return to UEFA Cup action next month when they meet Real Zaragoza in the last 32. The Spanish side visit Turkey for the first leg on 17 February before the return seven days later. Capped 28 times, Anelka has not appeared for France since April 2002.
