Article body
Vandereycken departure
Broos has signed a two-year contract, with a 12-month extension option, and succeeds René Vandereycken who was fired two weeks ago despite Genk securing European football by beating R. Standard de Liège in a play-off. The teams had finished level on points in joint-third place in the Belgian First Division.
Coaching success
Broos himself was sacked by Anderlecht in February, to be replaced by Franky Vercauteren, as the Brussels club trailed Club Brugge in the title race. He had won the championship with Anderlecht in 2003/04, to add to the two league titles and two Belgian Cups he collected as Brugge boss from 1991-97. The 53-year-old was also a player with Belgium's leading two clubs as well as a Belgian international defender.
