Sparta's Olfers free to join Aalborg

Aalborg BK have signed Steve Olfers on a free transfer from Sparta Rotterdam, with the versatile defender agreeing an initial one-year contract.

Aalborg BK have signed defender Steve Olfers on a one-year contract from Sparta Rotterdam.

Free transfer
The 25-year-old Dutchman moves to Denmark on a free transfer and will have the possibility of a two-season extension to his initial deal with AaB.

Versatile performer
The Danish club's sporting director, Lynge Jakobsen, said: "Steve has a lot of top-class experience in Dutch football. He can play as a defensive midfielder, central defender and even at right-back." Olfers joins AaB after rejecting fresh terms at Sparta. His new team face HJK Helsinki in the UEFA Cup second qualifying round on Thursday, trailing 2-1 from the first leg in Finland. Olfers previously played for Feyenoord, SC Excelsior, RKC Waalwijk and FC Den Bosch.
