Panathinaikos FC have made a double swoop ahead of their UEFA Cup campaign by signing central defender Josu Sarriegui Zumárraga from Athletic Club Bilbao and left-back Panagiotis Fyssas on a free transfer from Heart of Midlothian FC.

Medal haul
Former Deportivo Alavés player Zumárraga, 28, has signed a three-year contract for a fee of €500,000, while the 34-year old Fyssas returns to the Athens club he left in December 2003 to sign for SL Benfica before his summer 2005 switch to Scotland. Capped 60 times, he was a member of the Greece team which won UEFA EURO 2004™.

Several signings
The pair are the latest acquisitions for Panathinaikos, following the arrivals of goalkeepers Arkadiusz Malartz and Orestis Karnezis, defender Joseph Enakarhire and midfielders Marcelo Matos, Georgios Karagounis, Elini Dimoutsos and Dame N'Dioye. The Greens, who open their domestic campaign with a derby against Olympiacos CFP on 26 August, enter the UEFA Cup in the first round.
