Germany defender Marcell Jansen will not play again this year after FC Bayern München announced he has undergone surgery for torn right ankle ligaments.

Germany defender Marcell Jansen will not play again this year after FC Bayern München announced he has undergone surgery for torn right ankle ligaments.

Special programme
Bayern doctors elected to send the 22-year-old left-back for an operation to cure the problem, sustained in a training session with the national team. Jansen will spend the next three weeks in plaster before starting a special programme of treatment. He will miss Bayern's remaining UEFA Cup group stage games against SC Braga and Aris Thessaloniki FC. The competition favourites lead Group F.
