Sampdoria switch thrills Fornaroli

Bruno Fornaroli was delighted to join UC Sampdoria after resisting offers from other leading European clubs to sign for €3m from Club Nacional de Football.

Lost for words
The 20-year-old, who has penned a reported three-year deal, said: "I know many great clubs wanted me, such as PSV [Eindhoven], but when Sampdoria showed their interest in me I thought it was unbelievable and I accepted their offer immediately. I have no words to describe how happy I am now." Fornaroli scored 14 times in 26 league matches for the Montevideo club last term, his first full season as a professional.

Pieri staying
Meanwhile, Sampdoria left-back Mirko Pieri has signed a two-year extension to his contract, committing himself to the Blucerchiati until 2010. The former Udinese Calcio player, who will turn 30 on Thursday, played 29 times in Serie A last season as Samp finished sixth to qualify for the first round of the 2008/09 UEFA Cup.
