Janmaat bolsters Heerenveen ranks

SC Heerenveen have continued their busy summer in the transfer market with the signing of right-back Daryl Janmaat from ADO Den Haag for an undisclosed fee.

SC Heerenveen have continued their busy summer in the transfer market with the signing of right-back Daryl Janmaat from ADO Den Haag, the 19-year-old joining on a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

Impressive
Janmaat came up through the Feyenoord youth system before moving to Den Haag at the age of 14. He made his professional debut last season and went on make 26 appearances for the club in the second division, impressing sufficiently to earn a new contract in January.

‘Perfect’
The lure of Heerenveen, however, proved too great resist once right-back Gianni Zuiverloon had left the club for West Bromwich Albion FC earlier this summer. "I knew Zuiverloon was first choice and I didn't want to be on the bench so when Zuiverloon left, the situation changed," Janmaat said. "Heerenveen is perfect for young players. The club is known to give youngsters a chance and also to improve them."

Summer moves
As well as Janmaat, Heerenveen have signed Swedish midfielder Viktor Elm, Norway forward Tarik Elyounoussi, Ivorian midfielder Bonaventure Kalou and Brazilian striker Pedro Beda this summer while selling Zuiverloon to West Brom and Miralem Sulejmani to AFC Ajax in a deal worth up to €16.25m. Heerenveen enter the UEFA Cup in the first round.
