Giménez happy for Hertha chance

Hertha BSC Berlin are to sign Christian Giménez from Olympique de Marseille with the 31-year-old hoping to get his career back on track in the German capital.

Hertha BSC Berlin are to sign Christian Giménez from fellow UEFA Cup hopefuls Olympique de Marseille.

Loan deal
The Argentinian forward, 31, will move to the Bundesliga club on a one-year loan with the option of a permanent transfer. Giménez has already passed a medical in the German capital, bringing to an end a one-season stay in the south of France, where he scored on his debut last August but then failed to register in his next 20 league games. He had previously spent four successful campaigns at FC Basel 1893, with an overall record of 93 goals in 123 Swiss top-flight matches.

Lengthy stay
Giménez, who won three titles with Basel, landed in Europe ahead of the 1997/98 season after leaving CA Boca Juniors to join FC Lugano. Hertha and Marseille have both entered the UEFA Cup second qualifying round after coming through the UEFA Intertoto Cup. Giménez did not appear in that competition for OM, but would not have been cup-tied regardless. Hertha are due to welcome FC Ameri Tbilisi of Georgia on Thursday, the same night that Marseille travel to Switzerland to play BSC Young Boys.
