Milestones met, history made: Record-breaking Women’s EURO reaches the summit

29 of 31 matches sold out; Total tournament attendance set to surpass 650,000.

UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 is the best-attended Women’s European Championship ever, and all eyes will be on Basel on Sunday as England and Spain meet at a sold-out St. Jakob-Park for final of a tournament marked by record-breaking attendances, unprecedented enthusiasm and unforgettable action from Geneva to St. Gallen.

29 of 31 matches sold out with more attendance records broken

Following the record-breaking number of tickets sold ahead of the tournament, unprecedented demand has continued, with attendance milestones reached throughout the knockout phase.

Ahead of Sunday’s final, a record 623,088 spectators have attended UEFA Women’s EURO 2025, surpassing previous total attendance record of 574,875 from UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 in England.

The knockout phase achieved the following milestones:

• UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 was the best attended quarter-final stage ever with 112,535 spectators.

• The highest attendance at a Women’s EURO quarter-final match was achieved twice, first at Spain vs Switzerland in Bern with 29,734 in attendance, then the next day in Basel where 34,128 attended the France vs Germany match.

• France vs Germany is also the highest attended Women’s EURO quarter-final match not involving the host nation.

Approximately 35% of tickets were purchased by international fans and over 160 nationalities are represented among the overall ticket holders.

Additionally, over 95,000 fans have joined the pre-match fan walks, including 20,000 in Bern ahead of the Switzerland vs Spain match.

The Host City Fan Zones have welcomed more than 1 million visitors, highlighting the strong interest and enthusiasm around the tournament. More than 10,000 visitors have been trained in CPR at UEFA’s Get Trained Save Lives booth in the Host City Fan Zones as well as online.

TV audiences soar

With over 65 UEFA broadcast partners around the world, fans in more than 165 territories are being brought closer than ever to the emotion and atmosphere.

UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 is set to be the most watched edition ever, with a cumulative live audience of over 400 million and a cumulative all programme audience in excess of 500 million. A global audience of over 45 million viewers is expected for the final.

Numerous broadcast partners have seen record breaking Women’s EURO audiences along the way.

From the opening match, an enhanced camera plan has introduced new angles and heightened on-screen drama. A record number of cameras have been used for a Women’s EURO – including 27 for the final in Basel – and broadcasters now have access to more live and non-live content than ever. As a result, viewers are enjoying unprecedented coverage before, during and after all 31 matches.

Record-breaking digital engagement drives the momentum

Even ahead of the final, Women’s EURO 2025 is already the most viewed and engaged with Women’s EURO ever on UEFA social media. The Women’s EURO platforms have had 20.7 million engagements so far and over half a billion views across all posts – both significantly higher than the last tournament

Furthermore, over 500,000 new followers have been added across all UEFA social media featuring the following follower milestones reached during the tournament:

• 2 million on Facebook

• 500,000 on Instagram

• 100,000 on Threads

• 95,000 on WhatsApp Channel

The top post from the tournament has been Ann-Katrin Berger highlights from the Germany vs France quarter-final match on TikTok. The post has over 20 million views and more than 1.3 million engagements.

The UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 app and website have had more than 12 million views so far in the knockout stage bringing the total number of views since the start of the tournament to more than 49 million.

ESG Strategy in action

Approximately 86% of match ticket holders reached stadiums by sustainable transport modes (public transport, walking and biking), with approximately 66% having reached stadiums by public transport.

The KombiTicket initiative, which bundled match tickets with public transport access, has proven to be a cornerstone of this success.

Milestones on the pitch continue

A new record has been set for most goals in a final tournament, 104, nine more than the previous high of 95 in 2022.

This edition was the first time that both semi-finals in a final tournament went to extra-time.

England have had 11 different goal scorers so far - the most ever. Spain have had ten, also during this edition, and surpassing the previous record held by Germany from 2009.

England’s semi-final match against Italy was Sarina Wiegman’s 16th Women's EURO game as a head coach; breaking the record previously held jointly by former England coach Hope Powell and Germany's Tina Theune.

Additionally, Wiegman has now reached the last five women’s finals as head coach of both The Netherlands and England – Three UEFA Women’s EURO finals and two Women’s World Cup final.

Italy’s Cristiana Girelli (35y 84d) became the oldest player to score more than one goal in a Women’s EURO final tournament match when she netted twice in the quarter-final match against Norway.
