Leipzig is located in central Germany, 185km southwest of Berlin and 1h15 away on the train, close to the border of Czechia and Poland. The city has great train connections with Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Munich and many international cities.
Reduce your carbon impact during EURO 2024 by:

Travelling by train will be the most convenient option to get around. Thanks to our partner Deutsche Bahn, match ticket holders are entitled to discounted national and international train tickets.
✅ Using public transport to go between and within the Host Cities and avoid car travel
Leipzig ticket holders are entitled to a 36 Hour Travel Pass for the entire MDV (Mitteldeutscher Verkehrsverbund) network at no additional cost! The network covers a vast area beyond Leipzig's city borders, including Halle, Delitzsch and more, so you can discover the whole region by public transport.

No parking will be available at Leipzig Stadium. Give your wheels a break and use public transport instead.
🌍 Know before you go
Take the time to check you have all the relevant valid documents for travelling to Germany.
You can travel to Germany using your national ID card or passport. It’s also good to carry ID on you at all times, as you may need it to check in to your accommodation, or in the event of requiring assistance with your match ticket at the stadium.
You will need your passport and must go through border control. Your passport must meet both Schengen Area entry requirements:
✅Valid for at least 3 months after the date you intend to leave the EU
✅ Issued within the last 10 years
Some fans may also require a visa to gain entry into Germany, for example supporters from Türkiye. Visit Germany’s Federal Foreign Office website to check the complete list and apply for a visa.

By train 🚆
Leipzig Central Station is one of the largest terminuses in the world and was ranked best European train station in 2021.
Regular long-distance domestic services include:
- Hamburg – Berlin – Leipzig – Frankfurt – Stuttgart – Munich
- Hamburg – Berlin – Leipzig – Munich
- Dresden – Leipzig – Frankfurt – Wiesbaden
- Dresden – Leipzig – Dortmund – Cologne
- Leipzig – Stuttgart – Karlsruhe
Popular international routes include Prague (Czechia), Basel and Zurich (Switzerland).

Most of Deutsche Bahn’s high-speed and long-distance trains have Wi-Fi to keep you entertained and an onboard restaurant so you can fuel up before your match.
By choosing rail travel, you’re contributing to making EURO 2024 more sustainable. How to make your journeys a breeze:
1️⃣ Book early! The special DB fares are limited, so don’t miss out. On sale now.
2️⃣ Make a seat reservation for extra peace of mind.
3️⃣ You must purchase your train ticket before you board – you don’t want to risk a penalty fare.
4️⃣ Download the DB Navigator app to check for potential delays, platform numbers and more.
5️⃣ Trains will be busy during the tournament. Please be considerate of others so your fellow football fans can enjoy their journey too.
6️⃣ Children up to 5 years travel free of charge. Kids aged 6-14 travel free of charge when accompanied by a person aged 15 or above, but they must be indicated in the booking process.
Leipzig / Halle Airport (LEJ) is located just over 20km northwest of the city. The airport has direct flights to over 20 destinations. It takes just under 15 minutes to get into the city centre on public transport via the S5 or S5X S-Bahn lines.
Alternative airports to consider for getting to Leipzig are Berlin (BER) or Dresden (DRS).
Long-distance buses stop at the eastern side of Leipzig Central Station. Direct connections are available to Berlin, Munich, Dresden and Prague. Passengers can quickly transfer to public transport on arrival. The city centre and Fan Zone Augustusplatz are both within a short walking distance.
Travelling by car is not recommended during EURO 2024 and ticket holders are encouraged to take advantage of the well-connected domestic train routes to get to Leipzig. Plus, no parking will be available at the stadium on matchdays.
If you have to travel by car, Leipzig can be reached by motorways 9, 14 and 38 and is within easy reach of the wider German motorway network. Fans should consider using one of the Park + Ride locations to avoid city centre traffic. (Link available in German only.)

🏙️ Getting around Leipzig
Leipzig’s compact city centre makes walking one of the best ways to get around the city! There are pedestrianised areas and shortcuts and many destinations worth visiting are within walking distance of one another.
36 Hour Travel Pass
🌿Match ticket holders are entitled to a 36 Hour Travel Pass across the entire MDV (Mitteldeutscher Verkehrsverbund) network at no additional cost. The pass is valid from 06:00 on matchday until 18:00 the following day.
The public transport network consists of S-Bahn lines, trams and buses and all destinations within the city can be reach easily, quickly and inexpensively.
Tickets can be purchased via the LeipzigMOVE app / website, the MOOVME app (in German only), ticket machines at transport stops, service centres and more.
It takes less than 10 minutes to walk from Leipzig Central Station to Fan Zone Augustusplatz and around 35 minutes to walk to Leipzig Stadium. Definitely the host city to get your step count up!
A well-developed cycle path network is ready to be used when visiting Leipzig, include a city ring route. A rental bike system is in operation with bikes available in convenient locations; they can be hired via the LeipzigMOVE app.
Official taxis are yellow with a yellow “taxi” sign on the roof. There are many companies in Leipzig offering services around the clock. You can use the LeipzigMOVE app to order a taxi.
Set tariffs are mandatory in the city of Leipzig and fares should not be negotiated with the driver. You can find further information regarding taxis on the City of Leipzig website. (Links available in German only.)
E-scooters are available to rent via the LeipzigMOVE app. Remember to check where the e-scooters are and aren't permitted, including parking locations, at the end of your journey.
