Tournament hosts Germany qualified automatically. A further 20 teams – the top two in each of the ten European Qualifiers groups – had also booked their spots by the time of the draw.
The final three berths will be determined via play-offs set to be played in March 2024. Twelve teams contest the play-offs, based on their performances in the 2022/23 Nations League. There will be six semi-finals on 21 March followed by three finals on 26 March, with the three winning teams in those games completing the 24-team finals line-up.
How did the EURO 2024 draw work?
Teams were allocated to one of four pots (1, 2, 3, 4) in advance of the draw, in accordance with their results in the qualifying group stage. Hosts Germany were seeded in Pot 1 but were not drawn as they were automatically allocated to Group A. The three eventual play-off winners were assigned to Pot 4.
A further six pots (A, B, C, D, E, F) were required to draw the respective team's position in each group. Pots B to F contained four balls each to represent the positions available in each group (eg B1, B2, B3 and B4). Pot A contained only three balls for the positions A2, A3 and A4 in Group A, since Germany occupied position A1.
