Belgium round-up: Brugge get the breaks

Members

League leaders Club Brugge KV survived a scare to beat bottom club R. Charleroi SC.

Brugge's double boost
Trailing to Eduardo's early opener, Brugge needed an Ibrahim Kargbo own goal on the stroke of half-time, and a Timmy Simons penalty moments after it, to prevail over Charleroi. Brugge then made sure of the points when Koen Schockaert struck nine minutes from time, before Alexandre Kolotilko's late score for the home side.

Anderlecht scrape through
RSC Anderlecht also rode their luck in beating R. AEC Mons 2-1. It took an own goal from Mons's Liviu Ciobotariu for the Brussels team to seal the points after Anderlecht's Aleksander Ilic had pounced on an earlier goalkeeping error to give his side the lead. Mid-table Mons briefly silenced the home fans with an equaliser from Jean-Pierre La Placa.

Double sending-off
K. Sint Truidense VV stayed in second place, above Anderlecht on goal difference, after a 3-1 victory at R. Antwerp FC. Desiré Mbonabucya scored twice against an Antwerp side deflated by the sending-offs of Edwin Ouon and Abdulrahman Hussain.

Party of four
Meanwhile, Stein Huysegems's equaliser in a 1-1 draw at R. Excelsior Mouscron kept K. Lierse SK level with Anderlecht and Sint Truidense in a pack of four clubs also including Sporting Lokeren St-Niklaas Waaslan, who edged past KAA Gent 3-2 in Gentbrugge-Ghent. Champions KRC Genk kept in touch with the top five thanks to a 4-0 thrashing of KSK Beveren. Wesley Sonck, Mirsad Beslija and Bernd Thijs struck in the first half before Kevin Vanderbergh salted the wound late on.

Ceulemans crisis
RAA Louviéroise won 3-0 at VC Westerlo to increase the pressure on coach Jan Ceulemans. Westerlo dropped into the bottom three, replacingm R. Standard de Liège who won for the first time in nine games, 2-1 at home to KFC Germinal Beerschot Antwerpen. Finally, KV Mechelen took the honours in the mid-table collision with KFC Lommelse SK. Jean-Paul Boeka-Lissasi scored twice for the home side.
