Grasshopper-Club maintained their four-point advantage in the Nationalliga A with a 2-2 draw at second-placed FC Basel.
Grasshoppers pegged back
Grasshoppers twice took the lead in an entertaining match, but the home side found two equalisers to maintain their own title challenge. The away side took the lead after 12 minutes through Ricardo Cabanas, a lead they held for the majority of the game.
Instant reply
The defending champions drew level 17 minutes from time when Christian Giménez equalised, but the home fans’s delight was short-lived as Mladen Petric restored Grasshoppers's lead two minutes later.
Yakin on target
However, Basel continued to struggle to get back on level terms and captain Murat Yakin scored an important second equaliser seven minutes from time to keep his side’s championship challenge alive.
Two for Chapuisat
BSC Young Boys moved to within a point of third-placed Neuchâtel Xamax FC after defeating them 3-1. Stéphane Chapuisat scored twice for the home side, with goals after 15 and 25 minutes, with Artur Petrosyan adding a third seven minutes before the interval. Alexander Rey pulled a goal back on the stroke of half-time, but the visitors were unable to find a way back into the match in the second half.
Good news for Servette
At the other end of the table, Servette FC moved off the bottom with a 1-1 draw at FC Wil 1900. Yakuba Bamba had given Wil the lead in the 26th minute but Alexander Comisetti levelled for the visitors to secure the point that moved Servette above FC Thun, who also drew 1-1 at home to FC Zürich.
