Exploratory surgery
The 30-year-old Italy international who underwent exploratory surgery to remove a small fragment from his left ankle in May, is still not 100 per cent fit yet. A scan on the injury has revealed the presence of two other small fragments in his ankle. He will therefore miss the Italian Super Cup game against S.S. Lazio on 21 August in Tripoli and the beginning of the new Serie A season.
Champions League campaign
The Italian title holders will start their 2004/05 UEFA Champions League campaign in the group stage.
