'A disaster'
The Paraguayan international sustained the injury in Bayern's 2-1 Bundesliga win against 1. FC Köln on Saturday and could spend the rest of the season on the sidelines. "It's a disaster for him and for us," Bayern coach Felix Magath said after learning the extent of the injury. Santa Cruz will travel to the United States as soon as possible for treatment.
Cruel blow
It is a cruel setback for the 24-year-old, who looked to be well on the road to recovery after missing much of last term with another knee injury. He has scored three goals in seven Bundesliga matches already this season, eclipsing senior strike partner Roy Makaay, while also playing a central role as Bayern have made a 100 per cent start to UEFA Champions League Group A.
