FC Porto have renewed Pedro Emanuel's contract to keep the 31-year-old defender at the Estádio do Dragão until 2008, with an option to stay for a further term.

Portuguese champions FC Porto have renewed Pedro Emanuel's contract to keep the 31-year-old defender at the Estádio do Dragão until 2008, with an option to stay for a further term.

Contract renewed
Pedro Emanuel's deal was due to expire at the end of this season but Porto were keen to keep their captain, despite him rupturing his left achilles while warming up for a recent friendly and facing a long lay-off. The former Boavista FC centre-back, who joined Porto ahead of the 2002/03 campaign, was part of the team that won the UEFA Cup and UEFA Champions League in successive years. He thanked the club for "recognising my work at such a difficult moment of my career".
