Atlético face up to Simão absence

Club Atlético de Madrid winger Simão is reportedly facing a three-week lay-off after spraining his right knee during a Liga win at Getafe CF, ruling him out of next Wednesday's Group D visit of Olympique de Marseille.

Further injuries
The 28-year-old was substituted in the 68th minute last night and underwent various tests today, the result being that the Portuguese international should miss next Wednesday's visit of Olympique de Marseille in the UEFA Champions League. Simão's compatriot Maniche was also taken off at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez after suffering a bruised back but the central midfielder is expected to be fit for Marseille. Coach Javier Aguirre can ill afford more injuries with striker Diego Forlán already out with a thigh tear. Atlético won their opening Group D fixture 3-0 at PSV Eindhoven.
