Manchester United FC captain Rio Ferdinand faces a race to be fit for Wednesday's UEFA Champions League decider against FC Internazionale Milano at Old Trafford after injuring his ankle on Saturday.
'Bit of a concern'
The 30-year-old English international rolled his ankle in the first half of the 4-0 FA Cup quarter-final victory away to Fulham FC and did not appear after the break. "Rio's a bit of a concern," said manager Sir Alex Ferguson. "He's gone over on his ankle and we just have to wait and see how he is now. I just hope he makes Wednesday because he's such an important player to us." John O'Shea also appeared to sustain a hamstring injury at Craven Cottage, while Sir Alex confirmed that Wayne Rooney was taken off as a precautionary measure as the striker has only recently returned from a hamstring strain. "We need Wayne for Wednesday against Inter," said the Scot. The first leg of the first knockout round tie against the Nerazzurri finished goalless in Milan.
