Bayern and Paris play off for Group B supremacy

Paris Saint-Germain hold the upper hand as they conclude Group B with a trip to FC Bayern München. Both teams have already qualified for the round of 16 meaning only first place is left to be settled, with the French team having the advantage.

• Paris have won all five games in this season's competition, and the 3-0 defeat of Bayern on matchday two has given them a three-point cushion over the German club. Paris also lead on overall goal difference so Bayern must win by a four-goal margin to finish top.

• Defeat in Paris on matchday two prompted Bayern to part company with coach Carlo Ancelotti the following day.

Previous meetings
• The teams have met in seven previous matches – all in the UEFA Champions League group stage – and all but one of those contests were won by the home side.

• The most recent encounters before this season came in the first group stage in 2000/01 – a campaign that culminated in Bayern winning the competition for the fourth time. Home substitute Laurent Leroy's 90th-minute strike gave Paris a 1-0 victory at the Parc des Princes on 26 September 2000 before Bayern turned the tables in Munich, goals from Hasan Salihamidžić (3) – now the club's sporting director – and substitute Paulo Sérgio (89) securing a 2-0 success.

• In 1997/98 Bayern ran out 5-1 winners in the first game in Germany, Giovane Elber and Carsten Jancker each scoring twice and Thomas Helmer getting the other despite Marco Simone's consolation. Paris, however, were 3-1 victors back in France, their goals coming from Franck Gava (17), Florian Maurice (73) and Leroy again (75); Markus Babbel had levelled for Bayern.

• The French club also came out on top in 1994/95, George Weah and Daniel Bravo earning a 2-0 home win and Weah, again, claiming the only goal in Germany – the only away victory either team has managed in this fixture.

Bayern
• This is the German club's first home meeting with French opposition since a 6-1 defeat of LOSC Lille in the 2012/13 group stage, Arjen Robben scoring the fifth goal. That gave Bayern the record of W10 D2 L3 at home to Ligue 1 visitors.

• Bayern have won their last three games against French clubs in Munich, having not won in four (D2 L2) before that sequence.

• The Munich club, 3-0 victors at home to both RSC Anderlecht and Celtic FC this season, won all 16 of their European home matches between 17 September 2014 and 15 February this year, a competition record. The 2-1 loss to Real Madrid CF in the quarter-finals was their first reverse in Munich since a 4-0 defeat by the same opponents in their 2013/14 semi-final second leg.

• Under Carlo Ancelotti, Bayern came second in their group behind Club Atlético de Madrid in 2016/17 – the first time they had failed to win their section since 2009/10. They beat Arsenal FC 10-2 on aggregate in the round of 16, only to lose 6-3 over two legs to Real Madrid.

• Bayern have won all 11 group home games since a 3-2 reverse at the hands of Manchester City FC on matchday six in 2013/14.

• Bayern qualified for the group stage after winning their fifth straight Bundesliga title in 2016/17. The German side have reached the knockout rounds for the tenth season in a row.

Paris
• The French club are unbeaten on their last three trips to Germany (W2 D1), most recently a 4-0 victory at Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the 2013/14 round of 16 first leg (6-1 aggregate).

• Paris' overall record away to German clubs is W3 D1 L3.

• Paris can become only the seventh team to win all six games in a UEFA Champions League group stage – and, having also managed it in 1994/95, could match Real Madrid CF as the only clubs to have done it twice.

• The 7-1 defeat of Celtic on matchday five made it 24 goals in Group B for Paris, setting a new UEFA Champions League record with a game still to play.

• Neymar has scored in all five group games; no one has ever scored in all six.

• The Parisians have won seven of their last 11 away fixtures in the competition, winning 5-0 at Celtic and 4-0 at Anderlecht this season; they have lost three games in that run. Matchday one was their first clean sheet in seven away matches; they subsequently managed another at Anderlecht.

• Unai Emery's charges won at PFC Ludogorets Razgrad (3-1) and FC Basel 1893 (2-1) in last year's group stage, also drawing at Arsenal FC (2-2).

• Quarter-finalists in four successive seasons between 2013 and 2016, Paris were on the wrong end of the biggest comeback in UEFA Champions League history in last term's round of 16.
