Wome adds to Bremen's worries

Werder Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf said Cameroonian left-back Pierre Wome would be out of action "for quite a while" after picking up a groin injury.

Werder Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf said left-back Pierre Wome would be out of action "for quite a while" after picking up a groin injury.

Grim prognosis
The 28-year-old Cameroonian international sat out training yesterday with an as-yet unspecified groin injury which is likely to require surgery. Schaaf said: "He will probably be on the sidelines for quite a while." The UEFA Champions League hopefuls, who start their campaign in the third qualifying round, have been beset by injuries this summer. Torsten Frings (cruciate ligaments), Hugo Almeida (ankle), Daniel Jensen (groin), Aaron Hunt (knee) and Patrick Owomoyela (thigh) are all out, while Bremen are not sure when or whether Ivan Klasnić will be able to play again following a kidney transplant.

Better news
On the other hand, Tim Wiese, Leon Andreasen and Carlos Alberto all resumed full training yesterday after sitting out sessions in recent days, while Brazilians Diego and Naldo are set to return from holiday on Sunday. "This will surely help us and I hope that more players will be fit before we play Everton [FC in a friendly on Tuesday]," said Schaaf.
