Ajax take a chance on Juanfran

AFC Ajax have taken ex-Spain defender Juanfran on loan from Besiktas JK with the option of a permanent deal.

Limited opportunities
The 29-year-old joined Besiktas 12 months ago from RC Celta de Vigo, linking up with Spanish coach Vicente del Bosque in Istanbul. However, his opportunities were restricted after Del Bosque's early dismissal, limiting the full-back to 13 league appearances.

Maxwell injury
Juanfran will now provide cover for the injured Brazilian wing-back Maxwell at the Amsterdam ArenA. The left-sided player spent five seasons at Celta following spells with Levante UD and Valencia CF. He was last capped by Spain in June 2003.
