Round of 16 rivals aiming for better outcomes

Recent memories will be stirred in the round of 16, with Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City FC and FC Schalke 04 eager to put last season's results behind them.

TUESDAY
FC Shakhtar Donetsk v FC Bayern München
• Bayern have posted a solitary win, one draw and three defeats in Ukraine. Shakhtar lost to Borussia Dortmund at this stage of the 2012/13 campaign.

Paris Saint-Germain v Chelsea FC
• Chelsea were away-goals winners against Paris in last season's quarter-finals, despite a 3-1 first-leg reverse at the Parc des Princes, going through with a 2-0 victory in the London return. The Blues also prevailed 3-0 in Paris in September 2005, José Mourinho's first UEFA Champions League game in charge.

WEDNESDAY
FC Schalke 04 v Real Madrid CF
• Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema all scored twice in Madrid's 6-1 stroll in Gelsenkirchen in last term's round of 16; the Spanish side went on to triumph 9-2 on aggregate. Madrid also won 4-0 at Bayern in the semi-final second leg, but had lost 2-0 at Dortmund in the quarter-finals.

FC Basel 1893 v FC Porto
• Basel have scored in only three of their ten fixtures against Portuguese teams, winning just two of those matches. Porto have been beaten once only in six games with Swiss clubs.

TUESDAY
Manchester City FC v FC Barcelona
• This is City's second appearance in the round of 16 – they crashed 4-1 on aggregate to Barcelona a year ago, succumbing 2-1 in the home first leg – but for their opponents, it is the 11th in a row. Their record at this stage over the past decade is eight victories and two defeats.

Juventus v Borussia Dortmund
• Juventus and Dortmund meet for the first time since the German side prevailed 3-1 in the 1997 UEFA Champions League final in Munich. That was a measure of revenge for Juve's 6-1 aggregate success in the 1992/93 UEFA Cup final (3-1 away, 3-0 home).

WEDNESDAY
Arsenal FC v AS Monaco FC
• Arsène Wenger was Monaco coach between 1987 and 1994, landing the French league title in 1988 and the French Cup in 1991. He also led the principality outfit to the 1992 European Cup Winners' Cup final, losing 2-0 against SV Werder Bremen.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen v Club Atlético de Madrid
• Leverkusen, who have never won a round of 16 tie, played out two 1-1 draws with Atlético in the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League group stage. Simão's penalty (51) cancelled out an Eren Derdiyok goal (39) in the first game in Madrid on 30 September 2010, before Fran Mérida's equaliser (72) annulled Patrick Helmes's opener (69) in Leverkusen on 16 December.
