What happened in the first leg?
A masterclass in how to win away from home in Europe or a fortunate victory which could so easily have been reversed? Liverpool rode their luck for long periods in Milan – not least when Hakan Çalhanoğlu struck the bar – but were always likely to carry a threat at some stage. Substitute Roberto Firmino duly delivered with a cute header before Mohamed Salah added a late second.
Starting line-ups

Expert predictions
Joe Terry, Liverpool reporter
The first leg at the San Siro was a high-quality affair and Inter actually looked the better side for much of the game. Ultimately, Liverpool's substitutions and cutting edge proved the difference, perhaps courtesy of their greater experience at this level. It puts Jürgen Klopp's men in an enviable position of not having to force the issue. If the Reds can score early and keep Inter at arm's length, it might break the Italian side's spirit.
Vieri Capretta, Inter reporter
The reported word from the Inter changing room is that the Nerazzurri believe they can still win this tie. The performance in the first leg showed they can give Liverpool some trouble, and Friday's 5-0 win over Salernitana finally ended a four-match goal drought. The suspended Nicolò Barella will surely be missed, but Simone Inzaghi will be able to field his best XI and Inter will give it their all.
What the coaches say
Jürgen Klopp, Liverpool manager: "Two-nil is the lead that has been turned over most often in football. If you are at half-time, two up and think you are already through, then you are already on the wrong path. The [first-leg] result was a lot better than I expected. A really tough tie and a difficult game to play."
Simone Inzaghi, Inter coach: "It will be a difficult game, but we are highly motivated. It is important and essential to score a goal in the first half. Inter haven't reached this stage of the competition for many years and we knew that we would be facing a top team, having finished second in the group. We did our best in the first leg and we'll do the same tomorrow."
