Last match
This is the teams' first fixture.
Villarreal have lost just one of their six matches against Danish sides (W4 D1), winning all three at home. The sole defeat came in their last game in Denmark, 0-1 at Odense BK in the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League qualifying play-off first leg; the Spanish side progressed thanks to a 3-0 second-leg success at home.
Copenhagen are without a win in their previous 15 matches against Spanish teams (D6 L9), drawing 1-1 at eventual finalists Real Betis on Matchday 2 of last season's UEFA Conference League – only the second time they had avoided defeat in their last seven games.
Villarreal are in the Champions League for the fifth time and a first since 2021/22, when they equalled their best run by reaching the semi-finals.
The Spanish side were not involved in European competition in 2024/25; their most recent campaign was a run to the 2023/24 Europa League round of 16.
Copenhagen's last appearance in the Champions League proper came in 2023/24, their second successive campaign. Overall, this is their seventh group stage/league phase participation, more than any other Danish team.
In 2024/25, the Danish club reached the UEFA Conference League round of 16, where they were beaten 1-3 on aggregate by eventual champions Chelsea.
Key stats
A 4-0 loss at Borussia Dortmund on Matchday 5 made it eight Champions League games without a win for Villarreal (D2 L6). It was also their third successive defeat, all without scoring.
Villarreal have won only three of their last 20 matches in the Champions League group stage/league phase (D4 L13).
Having beaten Kairat Almaty 3-2 at home on Matchday 5, Copenhagen are aiming to record successive wins in the Champions League proper for the first time since they won three in a row across the 2006/07 and 2010/11 campaigns.
Viktor Dadason's goal against Kairat made him, aged 17 years 149 days, the youngest player to score in multiple matches in the Champions League proper, beating the record held by Lamine Yamal (17 years 200 days).
Copenhagen have won only two of their 22 away games in the Champions League proper (D4 L16).
