Coach: Andoni Iraola

Hired to replace Arne Slot, Andoni Iraola made his name as a right-back in a long spell at Athletic Club, during which his side reached the 2011/12 Europa League final. His reputation as a coach grew during spells at Rayo Vallecano and Bournemouth, with whom he finished sixth in the 2025/26 Premier League, earning the club a first shot at European football.

Key player: Virgil van Dijk

Liverpool's captain and central defensive leader, Van Dijk has helped his side to win two Premier League titles as well as the 2018/19 Champions League. Now in his tenth campaign at Anfield, there are few forwards in world football who can get the better of him when he is at the top of his game.

Big summer signing: Bradley Barcola

Impressed by the atmosphere at Anfield when he appeared there with Paris Saint-Germain, Barcola has all the ingredients to now become a firm favourite with those same supporters. Still only 23, the versatile winger has promised "to bring speed, danger" and he offers valuable experience too, having won two Champions League titles with Paris, where he scored 39 goals and delivered 37 assists in 152 games.

One to watch: Rio Ngumoha

Ngumoha became the youngest goalscorer in club history when he opened his Liverpool account in August 2025 and, more impressive still, the strike was a 100th-minute winner against Newcastle. That tells you a lot about the young winger, a daring dribbler who does not fear the big moments and wants to make the difference for his team.
