Sílvio Pereira has rejoined SL Benfica on a one-year loan from Club Atlético de Madrid, with the full-back glad to be back at "the biggest Portuguese club and one of the biggest in Europe".

Capped five times for Portugal, the 25-year-old Sílvio Pereira came through the Benfica academy before moving on to Rio Ave FC (2008-10) and Braga. He was a UEFA Europa League runner-up in his only season with Braga, but won the competition in 2011/12 at his new club, Atlético. However, first-team appearances proved hard to come by in Madrid, and he spent the latter part of last season on loan with RC Deportivo La Coruña.

He has now returned to Benfica on loan, though there has been no indication whether the UEFA Champions League group stage contenders will have the option to make the deal permanent next summer. "I have been away from Benfica for many years and I during that time I have grown up as a man and as a player," Sílvio Pereira explained. "Now I'm back at the biggest Portuguese club and one of the biggest in Europe."

The beaten 2012/13 UEFA Europa League finalists' summer signings have included Argentinian defender Lisandro López, GD Estoril-Praia centre-back Steven Vitória, and five Serbians: Stefan Mitrović, Lazar Marković, Miralem Sulejmani, Filip Djuričić and Uroš Matić.
