Moving on up
Gitas, 23, has signed a two-year contract with the Alpha Ethniki leaders with the option of a further three seasons in the capital. "The move to Panathinaikos was the step forward I was looking for in my career and I am delighted about it," he said.
Continental flavour
Gitas, who took part in the UEFA European Under-21 Championship last summer, has been ever present for Giannina this term, scoring three times in 15 appearances. His new club resume their UEFA Cup campaign next month with a fourth-round first-leg tie against Belgian side RSC Anderlecht on 20 February.
Struggle ahead
At the wrong end of the table, meanwhile, Akratitos FC have captured striker Nikos Iordanidis from OFI Crete FC. The 23-year-old will spend the next six months at Akratitos before deciding whether to put pen to paper on a one-year contract. Akratitos lie second from bottom of the first division table, three points from safety.
