The group stage of the biggest UEFA Women’s EURO ever came to a thrilling conclusion on Sunday night after two electrifying weeks of world-class football, highlighted by record-breaking attendances and digital engagement.
Even before the tournament began, Women’s EURO 2025 broke the record for most tickets sold, more than 600,000 to fans from all over the world, setting the foundation for the tournament to be the most attended ever, surpassing the 574,875 mark from the last edition.
461,582 fans attended matches during the group stage with 22 of 24 matches sold out, breaking records along the way including:
- Highest attendance at a group stage match not involving the host nation (broken twice): 29,520 Spain vs Portugal in Bern; 34,165 Germany vs Denmark in Basel.
- Most fans at a women’s football match in Switzerland: 34,165 Germany vs Denmark in Basel.
- Most away fans at a Women’s EURO match: More than 17,000 from Germany in the stands to see their team defeat Denmark.
- Most fans at a Switzerland women’s national team match: Switzerland vs Norway in Basel, 34,063.
- The average attendance was 19,233 spectators per match.
The enthusiasm for the tournament is also reflected in the more than 60,000 fans who took part in colourful, friendly and lively Fan Walks to the stadiums. On 5 July in Lucerne, 8,000 passionate fans from Wales and the Netherlands took part in the fan walk, and the following day in Bern, 14,000 Swiss and Icelandic supporters walked three kilometres from the fan zone to the Stadion Wankdorf.

Digital engagement reaches new heights
The UEFA Women’s EURO has been a resounding success not only in stadiums but also across digital platforms, with millions of views and visits to UEFA.com and the Women’s EURO app. There were 8.4 million engagements across WEURO social media platforms during the group stage – a 55% increase on the 5.4 million recorded during the same period in 2022. Views have also risen substantially, from 113.7 million to 189.4 million, while website and app views reached 30 million, marking a 92% increase compared to UEFA Women’s EURO 2022.
Sustainability and inclusion at the heart of the tournament
As outlined ahead of the tournament in the competition Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Strategy, the ambition is to deliver Women’s EURO 2025 to the highest sustainability standards and in full alignment with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, based on three pillars: environmental, social and governance.
A total of 2,526 accessibility tickets ensured that everyone was welcomed, enabling fans with a wide range of disabilities to attend the group stage – including individuals with autism, mobility impairments, and other non-visible conditions. Across all venues, 53 dedicated accessibility volunteers provided tailored support to enhance the matchday experience. The tournament also recorded over 2,100 interactions with the audio-descriptive commentary service, reflecting the growing demand for inclusive services that bring fans closer to the action.
Environmental sustainability was another key focus, with 24 green volunteers engaging with spectators in more than 2,500 interactions on topics such as eco-friendly mobility and waste management.
Goals, records, and footballing excellence
On the pitch, the group stage has delivered a thrilling milestone with 89 goals scored – the highest ever in a UEFA Women’s EURO group stage, surpassing the previous record of 78 set in 2022. With the knockout rounds still to come, the tournament is now just six goals shy of the all-time finals record of 95, also set in 2022.
Matches have averaged an impressive 3.71 goals per game, showcasing the attacking flair and competitive spirit of all 16 participating teams – each of which scored at least two goals during the group stage.
Spain matched England’s group stage record of 14 goals, equalling the mark set by the Lionesses in 2022. Meanwhile, Wales’ Jess Fishlock made history by becoming the oldest goalscorer in Women’s EURO finals history at 38 years and 176 days, scoring her nation’s first-ever goal at the tournament in their match against France.
As the road to Basel continues, the tournament’s momentum shows no signs of slowing – with more world-class football, passion, and history-making moments still to come until the final on 27 July.
