New beginning
The former Republic of Guinea international, who began his career in Germany with 1. FC Köln ten years ago, is to sign a contract with his new team on 1 January. The financial terms have not been disclosed but the deal will last until summer 2006.
Difficult time
Thiam, 28, arrived at Bayern in May 2001 from VfB Stuttgart but never really settled at the Olympiastadion. He has played just a handful of games this season, and failed to figure in Bayern's UEFA Champions League first group stage campaign after a substitute's appearance in the first leg of the third qualifying-round tie against FK Partizan.
Reunited with Effenberg
Thiam is the second Bayern player to switch to Wolfsburg this year after the summer move of playmaker Stefan Effenberg. Bayern, who are six points clear at the top of the 1. Bundesliga, have been busy of late, giving new deals to Roque Santa Cruz and Owen Hargreaves and agreeing terms to sign Argentinian defender Martin Demichelis next summer.
