Knäbel elected in Switzerland

The 58-year-old was the only candidate to succeed Dominique Blanc, who it was agreed by the SFA Congress will remain in the role until the end of this summer's UEFA Women's EURO 2025 in Switzerland. Blanc will become honorary SFA president when he stands down on 31 July.
Knäbel brings experience at many levels. He played in Germany's Bundesliga and ended his professional career at FC Winterthur, where he was player-coach and later technical director of the youth department. He later worked for FC Basel and in Germany for Hamburger SV and FC Schalke 04. Knäbel was also technical director at the SFA between 2009 and 2014.
"I am very touched by the broad trust that has been placed in me and I accept the election with conviction," he said, adding on Women's EURO 2025: "I have a feeling it's going to be a really great event. It's a benchmark for women's top-level football, and it's our job with the legacy project to ensure that it benefits women's football in Switzerland in the long term."
