Kompany hammer blow for Hamburg

Hamburger SV's Belgium centre-back Vincent Kompany has been ruled out of action for six weeks after being diagnosed with an infected achilles tendon.

Hamburger SV's Belgian international defender Vincent Kompany has been ruled out of action for six weeks after being diagnosed with an infected achilles tendon.

Achilles problem
The 20-year-old was taken off after 71 minutes of Hamburg's 3-1 UEFA Champions League home defeat by FC Porto on Wednesday. While it was initially reported that he was suffering a recurrence of the muscle complaint which sidelined him earlier in the campaign, it subsequently became clear he had a problem with his achilles tendon. Kompany has been told to rest for six weeks, meaning he will sit out the remainder of Hamburg's UEFA Champions League campaign as well as Belgium's UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifier at home to Poland on 15 November.
