After taking a point from their league phase opener, Roma welcome holders Barcelona to Stadio Tre Fontane on Matchday 2 of the UEFA Women's Champions League.
Roma shared a 0-0 stalemate with OH Leuven in Belgium on Matchday 1 – only the second goalless draw in league phase history.
Barcelona kicked off the defence of their European title with a 5-2 home triumph against Paris FC – the first time a Spanish team had scored five goals against French opponents. After going behind early, goals from Kerolin (18), Clara Serrajordi (28), Ewa Pajor (35, 70) and Caroline Graham Hansen (43) put Barça in the ascendency before Paris struck a late consolation.
Last match
Barcelona have won all three meetings between the sides, most recently a 4-0 away victory on Matchday 2 last season with Esmee Brugts, Kika Nazareth and Caroline Graham Hansen among the scorers. They had also triumphed 6-1 on aggregate in the 2022/23 quarter-finals (1-0 a, 5-1 h), Patricia Guijarro on target in Spain.
Roma's only other contest against a Spanish club was a 2-6 defeat at Real Madrid on Matchday 1 of last season's league phase. They are yet to score at home against Spanish visitors.
It is five wins from five for Barcelona against Italian teams, having overcome Juventus 4-1 on aggregate (2-0 a, 2-1 h) in the 2019/20 round of 32.
This is Roma's fifth consecutive appearance in the group stage/league phase after first qualifying in 2022/23, when they reached the quarter-finals. Having come through qualifying last season, they finished 14th in the league phase with the record W1 D1 L4.
They qualified automatically for this season's league phase having won the Italian title for the third time in four years.
This is Barcelona's 15th Women's Champions League campaign, all in succession. Four-time winners after reclaiming the trophy last season with a 4-0 triumph against OL Lyonnes in Oslo, they have reached the final in seven of the past eight editions as well as six in succession – a competition record. Their other successes came in the span of four seasons, beating Chelsea in 2021 (4-0), Wolfsburg in 2023 (3-2) and OL in 2024 (2-0).
On their way to the final last season, the Spanish champions topped the inaugural league phase with 16 points from a possible 18, before defeating Spanish rivals Real Madrid 12-2 on aggregate in the quarter-finals (6-2 a, 6-0 h) and Bayern München 5-3 in the last four (1-1 a, 4-2 h).
